Tulaoc flooding causes congestion on NLEX: Assistance provided to motorists

Motorists on the expressway in San Simon, Pampanga, found assistance from patrol and monitoring teams from NLEX Corp., who sprung into action on August 1. Their deployment was a response to the severe congestion caused by significant flooding in the Tulaoc area, a result of the overflowing Pampanga River. The impact was noticeably heavy on both the north and south-bound lanes of the expressway.

As August 3, reached 11.30am, it became apparent that the menacing water level of the Pampanga River was still on an upward trend. The NLEX teams were compelled to take further measures to manage the flood waters, resorting to installing sandbags.

A statement about this flood was given from Rogelio Singson, CEO and President of MPTC, featured on the NLEX Facebook page. In this, Singson declared that efforts were now taking shape in cooperation with the local government units of San Simon and Pampanga to rectify waterways and the drainage system within the affected area, reported by The Manila Times.

He reassured the public, “Our traffic and engineering teams are onsite and are continuously monitoring the situation to ensure motorist safety.” Singson didn’t shy away from highlighting the dual function of the team in action onsite. He said, “Our patrol teams are also onsite to manage traffic situations to ensure efficient and safe traffic flow on the expressway.”

The flooding has led to significant traffic restrictions; for instance, vehicles that were being routed via the San Simon North-bound Candaba Viaduct-Tulaoc Bridge were forced to limit their speed to between 5 kilometres per hour and 10 kilometres per hour, further contributing to the overall congestion and inconvenience.
