Bollywood debut for Rajvir Deol, Paloma in Avnish Barjatya’s romantic ‘Dono’

In the throbbing hub of Bollywood, romance has sailed onto new shores as the film industry’s freshest faces, Rajvir Deol and Paloma, debut with the latest film from the Barjatya’s filmmaking lineage. Marking the directorial debut of Avnish S. Barjatya, ‘Dono’ is set to introduce the acting talents of Sunny Deol’s younger son, Rajvir, and Poonam Dhillon’s daughter, Paloma.

Basking in the aftermath of Sunny Deol’s elder son, actor Karan Deol’s, wedding last month offered a nostalgic union of past silver screen sweethearts, Sunny and Poonam Dhillon, who drove audiences to theatres in droves with their 1984 romantic offering, ‘Sohni Mahiwal’. Joining them were the next generation of Deols and Dhillons – Rajvir and Paloma, who soon will light up the screen with their debut film.

Dono teaser

‘Dono’s initial glimpse intimated by the film’s teaser, released this Tuesday, sketches a romantic expedition set amidst the festivities of a traditional Indian destination wedding, punctuated by idyllic island backdrops. Meghna, played by Paloma, the groom’s companion, encounters Dev (Rajvir), a friend of the bride. As the teaser unfolds, the duo navigates through numerous wedding ceremonies, from the ‘haldi’ ceremony to ‘pheras’, all the while fostering their blossoming relationship.

Directorial debut of Avnish S Barjartya

Avnish S. Barjatya, following his father, eminent filmmaker Sooraj R. Barjatya’s steps, steps into the directing realm with ‘Dono.’ Having previously worked as an Assistant Director on his father’s projects, including ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ and ‘Uunchai’, Avnish seems to encapsulate his father’s filmmaking ethos into his debut, with echoes of 1994’s Hum Aapke Hain Koun, subtly hinted towards the teaser’s concluding part.

About Dono

‘Dono’, the debut vehicle for these two promising newcomers and the director, is a collaborative endeavour of Rajshri Productions and Jio Studios, produced under the creative supervision of Sooraj Barjatya. Renowned music trio, Shankar-Ehsan-Loy lend their magic to the film’s score, while lyricist Irshad Kamil transforms emotions into words, a small glimpse of which can be witnessed in the teaser. The film’s narrative is penned by Avnish himself, with Manu Sharma lending his touch to the screenplay alongside Avnish.

About Deols and Dhillons

The Deols and Dhillons, entrenched in the film industry for generations, continue this tradition. Karan Deol, Sunny’s elder son, took his first acting steps with the 2019 film ‘Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas.’ Likewise, Poonam’s son, Amol Thakeria Dhillon, made his debut on the big screen with a 2021 romantic comedy ‘Tuesdays & Fridays.’ Now it’s time for their younger siblings, Rajvir and Paloma, to take centre stage and make their grand entry into the glitz and glamour of Bollywood.
