Amit Shah inaugurates ₹257 crore mooring facility for BSF in Gujarat’s Kutch

Amit Shah inaugurates key BSF infrastructure amid border security review in Kutch

Union home minister, Amit Shah, paid a visit to Gujarat’s Kutch, a region along the India-Pakistan border last Saturday. During his visit, he opened significant infrastructure projects for the Border Security Force (BSF) and reviewed the security situation near the 1170 pillar of the border outpost and the sensitive Harami Nala, which are bordering the westernmost point of India’s international boundary.

A centrepiece of Shah’s visit was the groundbreaking of a mooring facility. This pivotal facility, which is projected to cost ₹257 crore, will house an administrative building, a canteen, an officers’ mess, a training centre, a parade ground and a workshop. Its main purpose will be to ensure the smooth maintenance of over 450 water vessels employed by the BSF’s water wing to patrol the region from Harami Nala in the west to Gujarat’s entire water border.

Shah lauded the BSF during his speech to personnel and dignitaries, highlighting its unique expertise among Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) in safeguarding land and water borders. He noted that the BSF even has its own air wing and, like the Indian Army, is equipped to protect the country’s water, land, and sky.

Additional infrastructure projects included a 28 kilometres-long Chidyamode-BR Bet Link Road and an outpost tower, situated at the 1164 pillar of Harami Nala. The road’s development will bolster operational and logistic support for BSF personnel stationed on the border. At the same time, the newly erected 9.5 metres tall outpost tower, furnished with advanced cameras, will capture even the minutest movement across the border under challenging conditions. Shah stressed that erecting a total of seven such towers is crucial for enhancing security along this border.

Honouring more than 1,900 BSF jawans who had given their lives for the country’s security, Shah highlighted the arrangements made in Nadabet for citizens to learn about the BSF’s history. This location, inaugurated by Shah last year, also provides a platform for paying e-tributes to fallen soldiers.

Shah applauded the BSF for their tenacity, stating, “BSF guards the borders in adverse conditions of temperature ranging from -43 degree to +43 degree…Be it Sundarbans, Harami Nala, snow-clad hills of Jammu and Kashmir or Bangladesh border surrounded by various waterfalls, BSF has always kept its eyes on the enemy.”
